Happy Belated 4th of July!

I know I’m about a week late, but I hope you all had a great Fourth of July!  Vincent and I went to Raleigh, NC to visit his mom and stepdad for the long weekend.  It was such a wonderful, relaxing trip, the perfect way to celebrate the holiday.

Colbert stayed here, and while we both missed him, we certainly had our fill of animals at Vincent’s parents’ house.  They have three cats: Angus (who lives primarily outdoors and rarely graces me with his presence), Zuri (aka. Zuri Paca), and Tiki.

Apparently Zuri likes to hide under the covers.

They also have three Australian Shepherds (in case you were wondering why we have an Aussie, now you understand!): Queen is going to be 16 years old soon, and Mika and Sasha are about to turn 1 year old.  In trying to take photos of the puppies, I quickly realized that I should not take Colbert’s photogenic nature for granted.  Here are my attempts at photographing Mika and Sasha.

Mika just kind of stares wide-eyed at the camera, whereas Sasha is all over the place.

While we were in Raleigh, Vincent was able to go golfing twice, and I was able go shopping at The Streets at Southpoint, which is quite possibly the best mall I’ve been to.  Their Anthropologie store’s window display was disappointing, but inside the store were a couple unique installations.

I almost didn't notice this was made out of paper plates!

Saturday night, we went to a Durham Bulls baseball game.  I hadn’t been to a game there since I was in college, and the area has improved dramatically.

Whenever I see the bull in the outfield, I think of this scene in Bull Durham.

Before the game, we ate dinner at the American TobaccoCampus, which is an area directly next to the stadium that has been converted from historic tobacco buildings into restaurants and event space.

In case you forget that you’re in the tobacco country, here’s a friendly reminder.

The game concluded with fireworks set off from center field.

I’m not really sure why they’re playing U2 in the background.

All in all, we had a great holiday weekend spending time with friends and family!  How did you spend your 4th of July?

  1. That scene in Bull Durham is great. Sadly, the clip you posted cuts off a great dialog between Crash and Nook on the mound.

I also remember this clip because one time golfing with Vincent and Ed and Aaron, Vincent hit this ridiculous hook to the "left field corner" as Ed would call it, and Ed joked that Vincent hit a double and should "run dummy". Good times.

  2. Yeah, I was trying to keep it PG, so I used the clip that didn't include the subsequent conversation. Although it is pretty great!
